Re: [Techtrouble] Network problem today?

Thanks Tami. From your description it sounds like our server went down over the long weekend. I didn't see a work order in the queue so I added one now--hopefully the district tech staff can take a look tomorrow. If the problem persists beyond tomorrow (Wednesday) please let me know.

Best,
--Mark

[Techtrouble] not back yet

Good Afternoon All,
I was waiting to confirm some issues with my doctor's before I emailed. I
had some setbacks this week that I now have to address. I tried to begin
decreasing my medications for the pain management too quickly and I did a
number on myself. I am now waiting for 2 doctor's to talk and decide how
this should be done safely.I was so frustrated and really tired of
depending on other people to take me to appointments, out for a coffee,
etc...that I pushed and went into a tailspin. So now I have to give myself
some extra time to get off meds, rehab the right way both physically and
mentally.
I have a procedure for my back on 2/15 and then have to remain stationary
for 48 hrs. not to mention PT for the shoulder and the back 2-3-times a
week until the procedure. I will also have to have follow-up for the
shoulder progression(x-ray, MRI) soon as well. I think it best to let you
all know I hope to be back by March 14th at this point. I hope the docents
can continue to assist your classes.
I would be happy to prepare lesson plans for the students if you want.
Please let me know by email as a group if you want this, also copy Mark
Henderson at his email; mark@nsmontessori.org
I am sorry to say also that I will miss the Mardi Gras Auction but have
donated a service for the event. I am also working on some private
donations as well.
I miss the interaction with all of you but most of all I miss the
students and their daily sense of humor, their challenges and their
intelligence. I appreciate the cards from some of the kids, they make me
teary, happy and sad at the same time if that makes sense. Please thank the
students who have done this.
Please take care of yourselves, give my regards to all of the students and
our families too. Let me know when I can be of assistance too as you know
I am checking email consistently.I am going to try and get by next week to
visit in between all of my appointments. I hope you all understand that I
really thought this would be easier than it has been and did not intend
for the healing to be this difficult. I had full intentions of being back
much sooner.
Regards to all,
Melissa

[Techtrouble] Help on Sunday 5/23

(Resending yesterday's message)

Hi Techies,

Nice to see many of you at the science fair tonight. Petra reminded
me that it's been a pretty quiet spring for the tech committee, but
there is something coming up where tech help would be useful. We're
relocating the music keyboard lab from room 1 to room 5 on Sunday, May
23, 1:00-4:00. It will involve running a lot of Ethernet cables to
connect the keyboards to a central hub. Please let me know if you're
available.

Best,
--Mark

Ordered DC-in board for 12" iBook

One of the iBooks is being very picky about how it gets plugged in to power, so I ordered a new DC-in board (ebay, $20 incl. shipping). I'll install it once it arrives. (It's coming from Philadelphia.)

AFP File Sharing from thing2

Hi,

What works: Thing2 has a current copy of all student directories. Thing2 uses northshoreview as its authentication source (using ldap). Thing2 is sharing user home directories using afp. (You can mount them using cmd-K in the Finder.)

What doesn't work: Automounting of those home directories for users. I could use some help from a Mac expert, although I do have a couple of other things to try. It might suffice just to have someone familiar with Workgroup Manager that I can explain this to.

I'll come by again tomorrow, or if someone wants to make an appointment to work on this, that would be fine too. (Friday morning?)

Regards,
Dennis
P.S. I did set up Mobile Directories" for just one user, Carter Gentry. We'll see if that also reduces the load on northshoreview. If it works the way I think it does, that would give the lowest load on the xserve, and the fastest performance for users.

ASL crashes

Hi,

I was poking through the system logs on northshoreview (the xserve) as part of my quest to serve half the student home directories from thing2, and found several programs that crash repeatedly. The most frequent one was aslmanager, so I looked up what to do about it, and this apple discussion seemed the most helpful, so I took the recommended action (delete the asl.db) and I haven't seen any aslmanager crashes since (logs in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter).

I anyone notices more crashes, feel free to let me know.

Thanks,
Dennis
